General dentistry

Modern dentistry has a solution for all of your oral imperfections; real or imagined. We can now transform a mouth filled with broken, missing, discoloured or uneven teeth and replace silver fillings with a more natural white finish. Everything is possible; it all begins with you seeking your dentist’s advice.

Initial Checkup

We feel your first visit is special and hope that you’ll want to discuss any problems or worries you may have so that, after a full examination, we can discuss any treatment required, give you all of the options available and provide a full treatment plan together with details of all costs.

At this appointment, we will make certain recordings of the condition of your teeth and gums usually with the help of some x-rays. We will also ask you to fill in a comprehensive medical history to ensure your safety.

X-rays/Photos

If we are to help you it is absolutely essential to know exactly what is going on beneath the gum line and inside the teeth, where we cannot see. As a health precaution, we advocate that the x-rays taken are kept to the minimal amount clinically possible and prescribed on an individual basis.

Photography plays a pivotal role in the Dental Industry as it provides clear communication with the lab making sure the highest possible standard is reached, before and after photos to show our patients, to place on the practice website.

Photos are brilliant for a visual explanation when highlighting existing problems and for future treatment planning.

Gums

Your gums are designed to keep the blood in and the bacteria out. If your gums bleed, then the bacteria can get into your body and disease will surely develop. Research shows that plaque (the white substance which builds upon the surface of your teeth) and bacteria are the cause of gum disease if this is not removed.

We will teach you how to keep your own gums bacteria-free. There is no place for bleeding gums. This is a warning signal – do not overlook it, please see our Hygienist section for more information.

Missing Teeth

When any teeth are missing this may place a strain on the remaining teeth and the supporting structures of these teeth – teeth tend to drift and tilt when they are lacking the mutual support of the neighbouring teeth. Imagine a car with 4 wheels – if one is missing or flat then the whole system is thrown out of balance.

The need for check-ups even if you have no teeth:

One of the questions we are often asked is do patients who have lost all of their natural teeth still need to visit the dentist? Our answer is always the same: yes, you do. Whether you have replaced your teeth with standard dentures or dental implants, the importance of keeping up annual dental appointments even when you have lost your natural teeth cannot be overstressed.

Cancer Screen

At your regular visits, we will carefully examine your mouth and associated structures for any signs of early cancer. The mouth can also show signs of many other important general illnesses long before symptoms start. This can give us a good early warning system so that any necessary medical treatment can be commenced whilst the prognosis for most human illnesses is at its best.

Children

Regular dental visits help children gain confidence within the dental environment which will have an impact on their attitude towards dental treatment throughout their lives. We will educate your children on Oral Hygiene and Diet and the effects of acid attacks on the teeth, so we can hopefully prevent any decay and gum disease. We advise most of our patients to see our hygienist, along with cleaning and educating she is able to apply non-invasive preventive treatments like Fissure Sealants and Fluoride. Your dentist will also be able to refer you for any Orthodontic treatment if needed this is free under the age of 16.

Your dental health is our number one priority

We look forward to meeting you

We understand that some patients are nervous but can assure you that our team are here to help. We will listen to your concerns and requirements and do everything we can to make your visit as comfortable as possible. We believe that people should have healthy mouths and attractive teeth for a lifetime, the prevention of dental and gum disease is far less costly than the repeated cycle of breakdown and repair.
